Meet Rita Pengelly
Rita Pengelly is a relatively new member of Mothers’ Union (MU), having joined just over five years ago. But she has quickly become a passionate advocate for the organisation, and about putting faith into action through her membership.
Very soon after she joined Rita had the idea of a free breakfast club for young mums who joined Mothers’ Union. The idea was simple – come along and simply enjoy someone else spoiling you - no agenda just come and be served by others. Now a group of young mums has formed as an evening group.
Rita has also arranged an Away From It All Holiday for a family in her area. These are breaks, days out or short holidays provided by Mothers’ Union for families who are facing extremely stressful situations that potentially might harm the stability of their family life. “It was a wonderful thing to be able to do” said Rita, “and the response from the family was overwhelming.”
Rita also is a very active fundraiser for Mothers’ Union having undertaken 10km and half marathons, having raised £770.00 for the charity.
“Since becoming a member I have become so very passionate about MU. I believe that we should live Mothers’ Union every day, I have given up all my other commitments apart from a drama group I run for a group of adults with learning difficulties and being a Sunday school teacher. I talk about Mothers’ Union whenever I can wherever go. For me the most important things about MU is that we are grounded in prayer, are committed to empowering women in families, we campaign against injustice and that MU activities are for the benefit of others. “
Rita is also extremely active in organising services, prayer times and quiet days – all ways to ensure spiritual growth and refreshment for members in her area.
