This is a 6 month, full-time assignment, with the following deliverables:
Primary focus – Britain and Ireland
To assess the current situation within MU, and propose and implement a plan for 2021 which is practical in the timescale and enables a campaign across all members as part of 16 Days of activism, as well as a targeted pilot programme for a longer-term approach to begin in a small number of Dioceses/parishes.
To work with the CEO, Communications and the Steering Group of members to develop an outline strategic and operational plan for the next 3 years (this is likely to be in parallel with the above).
To assess partner options for campaigning, materials and training, and make recommendations on how these should be used for both short and longer-term actions.
Either personally or as arranged through partners, to equip members as a whole to be prepared and engaged for the 16 Days of Activism in November, 2021.
If it is agreed to undertake a pilot project, to scope this out, and work with the CEO to identify participants and set up any necessary training and a process for delivering with the membership.
To highlight to the communications team opportunities for external messaging (for example aligned to the IC Change campaign)
Secondary focus – Worldwide
NOTE: Engagement in this area will depend on the workload to deliver the Britain and Ireland priorities.
To help to prepare the October submission for UNCSW66, and to liaise with partners to assess and recommend an engagement strategy for 2022, including possible side and parallel events. This will require engaging also with the Development Team to understand where MU has stories and insights to share.
To engage with the Development Team to help to shape the outcomes for programme work, when funded and linked to GBV.
To provide expert support to the Global Advocacy and Policy Advisory group
Skills & Experience
Experience of running a programme for change in behaviours in a Church community in the area of VAWG.
Excellent understanding of the issue of domestic abuse, and a proven ability to advocate against it.
Strong understanding of the Church and key players in Britain and Ireland.
An established network of individuals and organisations working in the field of VAWG, both for policy/advocacy and practical work on the ground.
Commitment to the MU staff values.
Willingness to work with the MU network of member-volunteers as well as staff to advocate for change.
This role is primarily based at our head office in Central London. However, due to the current restrictions on movement, home working option is temporarily made available. Mothers’ Union is looking at a hybrid working solution where staff will be required to work a minimum two days from office in the future. However, there will be occasions where staff will need to work from office for more than the 2 day minimum due to operational requirements of Mothers’ Union.
