Global Day 2022 (Mothers' Union Responds to 16 Days of Activism)

Our Global Day of Action is Mothers' Union's response to the call for 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Gender-based violence is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. Spanning many societies, it can affect anyone at any time and takes many forms. It can be part of a damaging cultural ‘norm’, or hidden behind closed doors. It can be very difficult to ask for help.

1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced domestic or sexual abuse and we believe this to be unacceptable. At Mothers’ Union, we work alongside communities to help stop domestic abuse and GBV, as well as supporting those who have been affected by it.

You can find the resources to support participation in the #NoMore1in3 campaign for our Global Day below. You can also share what you are planning for the campaign on social media using the hashtag #NoMore1in3.

Global Day 2022

What are we doing on this Global Day?

This year we are coming together on Saturday 26 November, marking it by wearing special #nomore1in3 badges, available from our online shop. (You can also make use of purple scarves from last year’s event.)

We are asking members to hold a one-minute silence at 1.03pm on 26 November 2022 (linking to the no more 1 in 3 theme). This might be on a small scale, in homes or branch meetings, or on a large scale – in community venues, churches and cathedrals.

We want to make this as big as we can, combining the voices of our four million members around the world – calling for action on an international scale and in the countries where we live.

When holding a group event, wear your badges to show you are making a stand against domestic violence. Try standing in a line or circle. If you have purple scarves, you may wish to have every third person placing a purple scarf over their mouth or eyes, as a symbol of 1 in 3 women affected by violence. Think creatively and please share your ideas!
