Choose our Mary Sumner House venue, based in the heart of Westminster, London. Our venue is a short walk from Victoria, Westminster and St James’ Park tube stations, making it ideal for guests coming into London or even internationally via Gatwick or Heathrow. The venue is surrounded by famous landmarks such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, making it the perfect unique location for hosting an event.
Mary Sumner House offers affordable venue hire, with a selection of 8 beautiful rooms and a conference hall to choose from. We have something suitable for every occasion. Whether that’s a small 6- person meeting (£215 a session) or a larger conference for up to 120 attendees (£1,285 daily). Each room has its own unique history having been named after female pioneers who have changed the course of history around the world.
Over the years Mary Sumner House has hosted a variety of events from interviews to workshops and senior leadership team away days. We understand the layout of your room can influence how collaborative and productive the meeting is. Therefore, we offer flexible room layouts with the choice of a theatre-style, boardroom or even cabaret configurations to suit the style of your meeting. Whether that’s a group presentation or a meeting requiring lots of discussion, we can ensure its suited to your needs. No matter which room you decide on, they all offer a glimpse into the organisation’s history and stories of its members.
Our historic meeting rooms
Mary Sumner House creates a distinctive atmosphere for your event that leaves a lasting impression. The venue was designed by Claude W. Ferrier and is filled with history and remembrance. Built to honour founder Mary Sumner and celebrate the Mothers’ Union’s growth, Mary Sumner House represents nearly 150 years of global impact across 84 countries with over 4 million members.
The Memorial Chapel features original wood panelling, stained glass windows, and century-old chairs gifted by Mothers’ Union members, many inscribed with dedications to loved ones. Throughout the building you’ll find stunning stained glass windows, including four in the Mary Sumner Room bearing Irish provincial arms, donated in memory of the 49,435 Irish sons who fell in the Great War. There is also a beautiful stained glass window feature on the half-landing. Whilst this replaced the original window due to damage in the Second World War, it remains a tribute to Rev. E.C. Carter and his wife who lost their lives on the Titanic.
Flexible conference catering
Mary Sumner House offers flexible catering options to accommodate your needs giving you the freedom to bring in your preferred caterers. Whether that’s a smaller meeting that requires unlimited hot drinks and snacks or a larger all-day conference requiring external catering. For meetings rooms booked on both the 1st and 2nd floor we also offer complimentary bottles of water where no refreshments have been ordered. If you need help choosing a caterer, we are happy to recommend trusted suppliers or accommodate your preferred choice.
Conference & meeting room setup support
We encourage you to visit Mary Sumner House to view the room you are seeking to use to ensure that it is the right fit for you, while discussing your meeting requirements in detail with you to ensure that the room set-up is exactly what you want it to be.
On the day of your booking, we will provide you with assistance in connecting to the display screens in the meeting rooms on the 1st & 2nd Floors while ensuring refreshments are available, and for the Conference Hall, assisting you with connecting the projector and screen, and ensuring that the microphones are working. We will be available to assist with any potential issues, ensuring you have as little disruption as possible.
Accessibility
Mary Sumner House offers assisted wheelchair access (Access Category 2) and access for delegates with mobility issues (Access Category 3) by way of the following:
- Ramp from street level into the building
- Lift to access Lower Ground, Ground, 1st & 2nd Floors for meeting rooms, and disable access toilet on 4th floor. Lift dimensions 1.20m (W) by 85cm (D). Doorway is 75cm wide.
- Stair lift for wheelchair uses to access the Conference Hall on the Lower Ground
- Disabled access Ladies toilet on 2nd floor, and unisex disabled access toilet on 4th floor
