Ethipia
Located in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world with a population exceeding 102 million. The country is also incredibly diverse, home to more than 80 distinct ethnic groups.
Mothers’ Union began in Ethiopia in 2004 with just 100 women and has since grown to over 3,000. Many members are South Sudanese refugees who fled conflict and settled in camps in the Gambella region in the southwest of the country. Mothers’ Union in Ethiopia is committed to holistic development, supporting individuals, families and communities through a range of outreach programmes. These include hospital and prison ministry, literacy circles, health awareness, financial literacy training, peace and reconciliation initiatives, savings groups, and community gardening and crop production.
