Kenya
Kenya, located in East Africa, is a country of contrasts, with its ethnic diversity producing a vibrant culture that can also be a source of conflict. Despite being the most advanced economy in east and central Africa Kenya faces challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and food insecurity.
Having started with just one branch in 1918, today there are more than 100,000 Mothers’ Union members across the country engaged locally in initiatives that are meeting communities’ needs. Members’ work includes tackling female genital mutilation, promoting peace and reconciliation, health awareness, vocational training, parenting and marriage support, savings groups, prison and hospital visitation, and caring for orphans.
