Myanmar
Myanmar is located in East Asia, bordered by Thailand, India, China and Bangladesh. The country is rich in natural resources, but faces major social challenges like poverty, inequality, displacement, and limited access to education. The gap between rich and poor in Myanmar is amongst the biggest in the world, ranking 145 out of 188 countries in human development.
Although Christians make up just 6% of the population, Mothers’ Union has a strong presence with over 11,000 members, celebrating its centenary in 2014. The membership continues to grow, offering community support through savings groups, vocational training, orphan care, health awareness, trauma therapy, spiritual and parenting programmes, and campaigns against gender-based violence.
