Nigeria

Nigeria, located in West Africa, is the continent’s most populous nation and the seventh most populous in the world, with over 190 million people. There are more than 250 ethnic groups and over 500 additional indigenous languages. Despite being one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest economies, heavily reliant on oil, it is estimated that over 60% of the population lives in extreme poverty.

Mothers’ Union, active in Nigeria since 1908, has at least 60,000 members, though the real number is likely much higher. Working closely with the Women’s Guild, members support communities through hospital visits, health clinics, orphan and widow care, vocational training, daycare centres, marriage preparation, prison ministry, and parenting programmes.
