Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, an island south of India, faces significant poverty, unemployment, and the effects of a 30-year civil war. In response, a high percentage of women go abroad to work, impacting family stability. Violence against women and child abuse are also challenges. Christians are a minority in Sri Lanka, making up only around 7% of the population.
Mothers’ Union has been active in Sri Lanka for over 110 years, reaching out and working with others in their communities to bring about social change. Members do this through prison ministry, vocational training, literacy programmes, feeding programmes, hospital visits, educational support, and more.
