Sudan
Sudan is a vast country in Northern Africa, remaining the continent’s third largest country even after South Sudan’s secession in 2011. Ongoing conflicts in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile states and the Darfur region have resulted in the displacement of millions, with nearly half the population living below the poverty line. Christians in Sudan are a small minority, making up around 1% of the population.
Despite this, Mothers’ Union has over 300 members in Sudan who are active in their communities, reaching out to all regardless of gender, age, religion or tribe, offering support through hospital and prison visits, literacy and financial education, vocational training, and peace and reconciliation efforts.
