Tanzania
Tanzania, located in East Africa and home to Mount Kilimanjaro, has remained peaceful in recent decades and has provided refuge for those fleeing conflict in neighbouring countries such as Rwanda, Congo and Burundi. Despite this stability, challenges like poverty, unemployment, and families where children are the sole caretakers due to HIV/AIDS persist.
Mothers’ Union membership in Tanzania, established in 1918, has been growing at a phenomenal rate, with over 900,000 members today. Members support their communities through initiatives such as vocational training, savings groups, orphan care, education, health awareness, support for widows, income-generating projects, and campaigns against gender-based violence and early marriage.
