The Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), located in Central Africa and spanning an area the size of Western Europe, has experienced decades of unrest, conflict, and corruption since gaining independence in 1960.
Despite ongoing instability, particularly in the northeast, Mothers’ Union members are incredibly active and play a vital role in supporting communities. With over 30,000 members, they provide both practical and pastoral care through trauma counselling, health awareness, emergency relief, literacy and vocational training, income-generating projects, peacebuilding, and advocacy for women’s rights and leadership. Their faith-based and community-led initiatives bring hope and resilience to families in crisis.
