Mothers' Union Diocese of Edinburgh

The Diocese of Edinburgh stretches down to the borders along the east coast with several holiday resorts

There are five branches and one group in the Diocese of Edinburgh: Christchurch, Morningside; Diocesan Centre (Diocesan Members); Livingston Ecumenical; St. James the Less, Penicuik; St. Ninian's Group, Comely Bank and St. Peter's, Musselburgh.

Membership is available to all baptised Christians who support the aims and objectives of Mothers’ Union. While in the past, and for many today, branch meetings form an important part of members' lives, we recognise that many are unable to come to meetings so we also offer diocesan membership. This type of membership enables people to support the special ethics of Mothers’ Union without being associated with a particular branch. On joining you will be offered opportunities to meet and share, be involved in projects, be able to campaign and be able to explore and deepen your faith. We cannot do as much work as we used to, however despite our small size we still run several projects in the local area.

Our work:

  • Supporting parents who unexpectedly have a premature baby by knitting very small baby clothes for the Simpson Maternity Unit, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary
  • Knitting hats for seafarers
  • Fundraising for families from the diocese to have a much needed holiday with the Mothers' Union scheme 'Away From It All' holidays
  • Giving toilet bags to hospitals for people who have been admitted as an emergency

To get involved go along to one of the branch meetings or contact the Diocesan President, Helen Godfrey.
