Exeter Mothers’ Union is both large and active. We seek to support our local communities as best we can in dealing with the issues of rural isolation and poverty. In the last three years we have sent 24 families away on a 3 night break through our AFIA Holiday Scheme. We have also supported 10 Primary schools across Devon by providing funding for laptops and tablets for pupils to use in their learning. We also support refugees and immigrant communities who live in the county.

Our work is threefold: a diverse range of Mothers’ Union programmes meet the needs of individuals and families every day; our policy work challenges root causes of injustice; all of our work is underpinned by our Christian faith and a challenge to ‘love mercy, seek justice and walk humbly with our God.’ Micah 6:8. We aim to attract all ages, you do not have to be a mother to be a member and we welcome male members too!

Our work:

  • AFIA holidays to Haven Caravan Park, Exmouth and Park Dean, Croyde
  • The Big Book Share in Dartmoor, Channings Wood and Exeter Prisons
  • We volunteer in foodbanks and community larders to help those who are struggling to buy food and essentials
  • Laptops for primary schools across Devon
  • No More 1 in 3 - our MU campaign against Gender Based Violence including The Red Chair campaign across the county
  • 'Souls of Our Shoes' exhibition in Exeter Cathedral during the 16 Days of Activism 2023, highlighting issues around Domestic Abuse

You can join as a Branch Member and become involved with Mothers’ Union at a local level. Branches are attached to parishes, and often meet up to pray and support members, learn more about the work of Mothers’ Union, and get involved with projects and campaigns. Diocesan Members are kept up to date with email newsletters, postal information including Prayer Diaries and the MU magazine - Connected just like our Branch members do.

Simply send us your details and we can forward them to a Branch near you or give you more information about Diocesan Membership.
