Led by our diocesan bishop, the Diocese of Salisbury continues to work to the theme: Renewing Hope: Pray, Serve, Grow.  Embracing  this theme together with our own Mothers’ Union aims and objectives, our members endeavour to walk ‘In Mary Sumner’s Footsteps’ reaching out and sharing Christian love with all.

We assist the Church and clergy within the diocese as well as several external agencies to encourage more people, young and old, to engage with the Christian message and ultimately, to increase our congregations and membership of Mothers’ Union.

PRAYER

Prayer is the foundation of everything we do as members of Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Salisbury. We are fortunate to have our own Chaplain, Revd Jayne Tyrer, who leads our prayers and worship at all our trustee meetings and our council meetings. In addition, we have a special Mothers’ Union monthly communion service in Salisbury Cathedral.
We hold our link dioceses of Botswana, Marsabit in Kenya, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Idah and Jebba in Nigeria in our prayers.

AFIA

We provide holidays in our six-berth mobile holiday home at Rockley Park, Poole for those in need.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

We continue our strong links with the women’s refuges within the diocese, particularly the Salisbury Women’s Refuge. As part of the annual 16 Days of Activism Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence, our members come together for a high profile eucharist service in Salisbury Cathedral to which several other agencies are invited.

PRISONS

We support Guy’s Marsh and Erlestoke Prisons for men in the diocese. Our members provide support in the families units of the prisons and through the Angel Tree Project, prisoners’ children receive presents at Christmas.

SCHOOLS

Our virtual babies are currently going into 11 secondary schools throughout the diocese.New start is well received in a number of schools at the beginning of each academic year. Members take our user friendly e-safety package into their local schools.

FUNDRAISING

Our members raise funds for our projects within the diocese.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

We are fortunate to have Mrs Alice Page as our recently appointed Community Development Coordinator. We look forward to her input regarding new projects and partnerships to be undertaken within the diocese.
