Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Southwark covers the Greater London boroughs south of the Thames, and part of Surrey
Within the Diocese of Southwark, over 1,600 members are praying and working together to share Christ’s love through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life, making a real difference to many of the communities where they live, as well as supporting the worldwide work of Mothers’ Union.
Our members are encouraged to get involved in supporting families of every kind - by campaigning for social justice - through giving practical help with projects large and small, to raising money to enhance the lives of families throughout the world; and all these through prayerful support.
There are different ways to be a member. Most of our members are in branches but others are deanery or diocesan members.
Our members are involved in many, many projects - including:
Away From It All (AFIA) holidays – where those, young or old, who would otherwise not have a holiday are enabled to get away for a while
Prison visiting at a number of prisons – in visitors’ centres and providing Christmas gifts for prisoners’ children
Volunteering in hospitals – setting up ‘Tea at 3’ sessions in premature baby units and by knitting clothes, octopuses and bonding squares
16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence - members work tirelessly within their communities to raise awareness of the horrifying facts of gender-based violence
We also work supporting refugees and women’s refuges.
If you are interested in praying for and serving families in Southwark and throughout the world, we would love you to join us. Please contact our diocesan secretary and you can discuss which is the best membership for you. Thank you and God guide and bless you.
