We are privileged to be the “birthplace” of Mothers’ Union which started in the vicarage in the village of Old Alresford some eight miles from Winchester and enjoy welcoming visitors from all around the UK and the world.

We seek to follow Mary Sumner’s vision to support families in caring for their members, and to campaign for a fairer world – a vision which is as relevant now as 140 years ago.

We have over 750 members who are active in their communities. As well as helping with diocesan initiatives, our groups run their own projects, and meet for worship and fellowship.

Our Work:

  • We run a week-long holiday for families in need of a break each August and hold occasional Family Fun Days
  • We run Child Contact Centres where separated parents can spend quality time with their children at the weekend
  • We run Quiet Days in the diocese and deaneries and support our own communities in prayer as well as the Mothers' Union around the world especially where we are linked
  • Campaigning on family issues including against any violence
  • We organise groups for parents especially new parents
  • We help with preparation for marriage and baptism in our parishes
  • We run cafes for those suffering from dementia and their families
  • We provide free tea and cakes for service personnel and their families at RAF Odiham Families Day
  • We support work with prisoners in Winchester prison, with refugees and with the homeless, and those in refuges

You will find a warm welcome with us, either within one of our groups or as a diocesan member. You can enjoy the fellowship of one of our groups, get involved with one of our projects or join our campaigns on family issues.  Find more information about us on our website  www.muwinchester.org.uk
