Which way of joining is right for me?
We are a loving organisation open to anyone, and supportive of everyone.
We started as a Christian group to support mothers and families and that remains at the core of our work and guiding principles, but we welcome you to join us whoever you are – you don’t have to have children, be married, be a woman, or be a churchgoer. There are different ways to belong depending on what works best for you.
However, you get involved, you are becoming part of a global movement for change four million strong.
Joining the global movement is open to anyone who supports our vision and mission, who we are and what we do.
Joining the movement as a member or friend of your local diocese in Britain & Ireland is open to those in Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe, who supports our our vision and mission, who we are and what we do, and wants to be part of their local MU.
Each member type receives member benefits as detailed below.
Global Movement
Joining the global movement is likely to be the right path for you if you are particularly interested in finding out more about Mothers’ Union and supporting our work. You will become part of our global family, a community of action and prayer.

Joining MU through a local diocese or local group as a local member or friend is likely to be the right path for you if you are particularly interested in getting involved actively to make a change in your local community, and in joining together with others for faith, fellowship and friendship.

Benefits of joining
Benefits of membership or friendship for joining Mothers’ Union locally in Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe, you will receive all of the following – the change we can achieve together is priceless.
If you are in Britain, Ireland or mainland Europe, you will receive a welcome pack containing an MU badge, a welcome letter, the most recent hard copy of Connected, our bi-annual magazine, and the MU Prayer Diary, including key dates in the Church year.
If you are overseas, outside of Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe, you will receive a welcome email along with electronic copies of Connected magazine and the MU Prayer Diary.
You can opt to receive the monthly e-newsletter, and you are welcome to join Mothers’ Union Facebook Group to connect with the movement online
You have the chance to take an active part in our movement and are encouraged to get more involved with your local MU groups; you may even think of joining them directly in the future.
Benefits of membership or friendship for local group members depend on where you live and how you choose to join but usually include receiving locally relevant newsletters alongside Connected magazine and the MU Prayer Diary; the opportunity to take part in community projects and volunteering; and the chance to attend monthly meetings for discussion, prayer and fellowship. As a local MU member, you also have a constitutional right to vote in MU elections.
Joining Mothers’ Union locally overseas
Joining MU locally outside of Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe varies by country and province. You are advised to contact your local MU directly.
