New Mothers’ Union branch strengthened in Dubai through visit by Zonal Trustee for All Ireland

June Butler, Zonal Trustee for All Ireland, recently had the opportunity to support the growing work of Mothers’ Union in Dubai while visiting family who now live there. During her time in the city, June connected a recently formed Mothers’ Union branch, to offer encouragement and practical support.

The Dubai branch is already showing signs of growth and commitment. In a recent enrolment service officiated by Parish Priest, the Reverend Jim Young of Christ Church Jebel Ali, four members were admitted. Another six members are preparing for their enrolment in March 2026. A wonderful sign of Mothers’ Union continuing to grow and take root in new places even as we celebrate our 150 year anniversary!

Through branch leader Danni Melk, June received an invitation to speak about Mothers’ Union following the Eucharist on Sunday 1 February. The purpose of the talk was both to encourage those already involved in the new branch, and to introduce the wider congregation to Mothers’ Union and our work across over 80 countries worldwide.

June’s address was warmly received by the congregation, who responded positively to hearing about MU’s global fellowship, values, and practical and prayerful ways in which members support family life in diverse contexts. The opportunity provided a valuable moment to raise awareness of Mothers’ Union within the parish and to affirm the work already underway in Dubai.

As the visit took place on 1 February, which is also the Feast of Saint Brigid – one of Ireland’s patron saints – June shared the story and symbolism of St Brigid’s Cross, traditionally woven from reeds. She concluded by offering words from St Brigid’s prayer, bringing a reflective and prayerful close to the occasion: “May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body and spirit. Amen.”

June has committed to continuing her support of the branch as it develops. Plans are already in place for her to lead an online training and information session, supporting members as they develop confidence and practical skills for ministry.
