Our people
We are a member-led organisation with a small central staff and an elected Worldwide Board of Trustees
Who we are
Mothers’ Union is uniquely positioned as a member-led global Christian women’s organisation, with our projects, programmes and campaigns undertaken by our members as volunteers. Our governance structure reflects our values: we listen to local communities, empower grassroots leadership and uphold the highest standards of integrity in everything we do. We have a small central staff providing the necessary coordination and professional support, overseen by a Worldwide Board of Trustees.
The Worldwide Board of Trustees comprises the elected roles of Worldwide President as chair of the board, and up to 12 members elected from different regions of the world, five of whom are from Britain and Ireland. Elections take place every three years, and any individual is eligible to stand for a maximum of two terms. Where necessary, individuals can be co-opted as non-voting members.
The Worldwide Board of Trustees is accountable to a Worldwide Council. This council comprises the leaders of the Mothers’ Union regions, known as Provinces, from around the world, as well as the Worldwide Board and former Worldwide Presidents. The council meets at least once in a three-year cycle.
Mothers’ Union is led by a volunteer–elected Worldwide Board of Trustees that reflects its global presence.
