Mothers’ Union is a member-led organisation, and all our projects, programmes and campaigns are carried out by our members, acting as volunteers, with a small central staff of about 40 providing the necessary co-ordination and professional support.

Having established its constitution in 1896, Mothers’ Union was granted a Royal Charter in 1926 which has been updated as required, most recently in 2018. We are registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales (240531).
Today, Mothers’ Union is a federation of over 600 independent Mothers’ Union charities around the world, supporting over 4 million members in 84 countries. The central charity acts as the umbrella organisation which provides co-ordination of activities and communication across the movement, ensures that the voice of members is heard on key issues, and also provides direct support to the membership within Britain and Ireland.
The organisation is normally involved with a great deal of fundraising and membership related activities. However, the wide-ranging effects of the pandemic which began in the early part of this year has meant that there have been changes to many planned events that were due to take place.
