Madagascar

Located just off the east coast of Africa, Madagascar is the world's fourth largest island after Greenland, New Guinea and Borneo.

Madagascar is prone to natural disasters such as tropical storms and cyclones which can have a devastating impact on communities, and in 2017 the country faced a new challenge with the rapid spread of plague across the country.

Despite high rates of poverty across the country, Mothers' Union is very active, dynamic and thriving with a large number of young members. Mothers’ Union started in Madagascar in 1903 and is continuing to grow each year.

Members are very committed to Mothers' Union’s vision of a world where God's love is shown through loving, respectful, and flourishing relationships and plan their activities to meet this vision. Their projects include:

  • Raising awareness of child rights
  • Campaigning against gender based violence and human trafficking
  • Literacy programmes
  • Orphan care programmes
  • Health awareness programmes
  • Marriage preparation
  • Vocational skills training
  • Prison ministry
  • Hospital visitation
