Argentina

Argentina occupies much of the southern part of South America, bordered by Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay with a sea coast in the East.
Argentina has the second highest Human Development Index rating in Latin America, the second largest economy in South America, and is a member of the G20 group of major world economies. Yet Argentina is also a country of contrasts and in remote Northern Argentina, many of the people are poor, illiteracy levels are high and most families live on government benefits. 

Amare – Agrupación de Mujeres Anglicanas Renovadas en el Espíritu (Anglican Women Renewed in the Spirit) is the local expression of Mothers’ Union in Latin America. Mostly active in Northern Argentina, but with new shoots in urban Buenos Aires, the 1,500 strong membership of Amare is very diverse with 95% of people being from indigenous tribes (Wichi, Toba, Chulupi, Chorote etc). There are over 120 Churches in the North alone covering an area roughly the size of France! 

Responding to the challenges faced by families in both urban and rural areas, members of AMARE are actively engaged in a number of social outreach projects: 

• Worldwide Parenting Programme
• Local community reconciliation
• Faith development
• Hospital visiting
• Marriage preparation

In late 2017 women from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru gathered together to reflect on Amare’s development in the region with the hope that new Amare groups will be introduced into South America in 2018.
