Celebrating the Diversity and Unity of Mothers' Union Zone C
Zone C includes the vibrant Provinces of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, Australia, Melanesia, and Papua New Guinea, each with its own unique cultures and traditions that enrich our global community.
What does Mothers' Union look like in Zone C?
Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia
Known in Maori as Te Hahi Mihinare ki Aotearoa ki Niu Trieni, Ki Nga Moutere Nui a Kiwa, this province boasts over 400 dedicated members. It encompasses the beautiful island nations of Tonga, Fiji, and Samoa, where our members work tirelessly to support their communities through various initiatives.
Melanesia
The Mothers' Union in Melanesia is a cornerstone of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, which spans over 900 islands, including the main island of Guadalcanal, home to the capital, Honiara. With a remarkable 14,329 members, this province continues to grow and flourish, making a significant impact on local communities.
Australia
Australia stands as the largest province in Zone C and the entire Anglican Communion, with nearly 7,000 members spread across 23 dioceses. Our Australian members are deeply committed to nurturing their communities, striving to grow and flourish through outward-focused initiatives and strong internal support.
Papua New Guinea
In Papua New Guinea, the Mothers' Union is active in all five dioceses, with 9,260 members dedicated to fostering greater self-reliance despite challenging infrastructure and rural living conditions. Their work is vital to the well-being of the communities they serve.
Focus Areas and Global Initiatives
Following the MULOA (Mothers' Union Listens, Observes, Acts) workshops, our Zone C members have been actively engaged in key areas such as supporting parents and carers, promoting literacy, addressing climate change, and empowering communities, especially women. These efforts align with our global mission to end violence, injustice, and poverty.
One of the standout moments was in Melanesia, where members showcased their work in parenting, literacy, and crafts, including programs in male prisons. These crafts provide valuable skills training and generate income for the community. In Australia, during a council meeting in Sydney, a talk highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Mothers' Union and Anglicare, exploring ways to enhance this partnership further.
In New Zealand, a visit to The Anglican Trust for Women and Children demonstrated the profound impact of local donations from Mothers' Union members, supporting an organisation whose values closely align with ours. Across all provinces, the compassionate work of our members was evident, such as welcoming refugees from Zimbabwe and Sudan into the Mothers' Union family in Australia.
Inspiring Stories of Transformation
A powerful example of our impact comes from Melanesia, where a woman who participated in our literacy program shared her journey: "Now I have gained confidence, and I can read our prayer book."
This story embodies the transformative power of our collective efforts and the unwavering support from members and supporters worldwide.
Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and updates from Zone C, as we continue to grow and support each other in our shared mission.
