UN CSW68

The 68th session of the Commission of the Status of Women (UN CSW68) took place during 11 - 22 March 2024.

The CSW is a commission of the UN's Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and, as an organisation that has been granted consultative status at ECOSOC, Mothers’ Union has a number of privileges at CSW, which includes being able to submit a formal written statement.

This year, Mothers’ Union are delighted to be able to work closely with the Anglican Consultative Council to submit a joint statement. Our submission focussed on the priority theme of UN CSW68: 'Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.'

We are pleased to be able to use Mothers’ Union’s literacy work in Burundi in our statement as an example of an extremely effective long-term women-led approach to tackling poverty by a faith-based organisation. Our submission called for increased partnerships with faith-based organisations — recognising the role we can play in addressing poverty, illiteracy, and gender-based violence.

Essentially, a greater focus on the innate value of all women.
