Hove Beach Hut Advent Calendar

Members of the Brighton District gather for the annual Hove Beach Hut Advent Calendar

01 Dec 2018

This year Brighton District once again took part in the annual Hove Beach Hut Advent Calendar. Sadly this was probably the final year for the event and I know those of us who have been involved will miss having the opportunity to dazzle the visitors with MU Blue!

The theme this year was “Follow the Star” and as always branches provided such a range of stars that we almost ran out of room to display them. You do of course realise that some stars are double deckers! I am always amazed at the variety of skills and materials used in the production of the things we ask branches to provide and it really highlights the range of gifts and talents we bring to our membership of MU. We were very pleased to be joined by an amazingly talented young musician to help with our carol singing and to be able to share some star biscuits beautifully decorated with the MU logo. Visitors were encouraged to kneel down, take a biscuit and gaze at the tiny Nativity scene before them.

Again, this year we were blessed with fine weather and Emma, Victoria and I stayed fairly cosy through the afternoon as we prepared the Hut. We missed Mary who was sadly in hospital, but her blue lights had pride of place and as soon as the lights were turned on, we sent her a photograph. The theme this year reminded us of MU’s own, “In Mary Sumner’s Footsteps” and how our Advent journey which leads us to Jesus does not end at Christmas but continues each day as we seek to “ touch as many lives as possible “ for Him.
