Raising funds for St Richard’s Mothers’ Union

Mothers' Union member Angela Nicholas pledges to walk 1000 miles over the year to raise money for local causes including Mothers' Union projects.

Angela Nichols, a member of St Richard’s Heathfield Branch has pledged to walk 1000 miles in a year to help her to keep fit - and at the same time raise money for local charities including Mothers’ Union projects within the three churches in the Heathfield Benefice.

Angela said, ‘I love walking and decided to sign up to the “1000 mile Challenge Pledge” to encourage me to walk to keep fit.  It occurred to me that I could use my walks to raise money to help local charities and organisations, hence my decision to use the miles I walked in May for Mothers’ Union projects.  Encouraged by the support from parishioners across the Benefice I had to make sure that I walked 3 miles a day and managed to clock up a grand total of 98 ½ miles in May alone, raising an amazing £210!  Some of the money has already been spent on mugs, plates and tablecloths for our Families@4 service held at
4 o’clock on the 2nd Sunday of each month and some will be used for Cards and Bibles for Baptisms.’

The Pledge is a challenge to yourself to walk 1000 miles in a calendar year and works out at an average of 84 miles a month.  Anyone can sign up to the pledge – there are regular emails, an opportunity to share what you are doing on social media and a facility to find a group near you if you prefer to walk with others.
