A Very Special Day – The Ordination of Deacons

Fourteen new deacons were ordained by the Bishop of Chichester at the Cathedral.

29 Jun 2019

Family, friends and parish supporters came in great numbers to support fourteen new deacons who were ordained by the Bishop of Chichester in his Cathedral Church on Saturday 29 June.  Among them were Mothers’ Union members from across the Diocese who had come to support me, as one of the fourteen new deacons.  As we processed into the Cathedral at the beginning of the service, it was wonderful to spot so many familiar faces among the congregation.  If you were one of them, thank you for being there. And thank you for being a part of my journey so far.  It was such a privilege to be surrounded by so much love on such a special day. As you will see from the photographs, my former Branch Leader in Shoreham, Marion Standing and her husband Revd Victor Standing, travelled from their home in Lichfield to join me.  Rachael Anderson, Digital Communications and Events Manager at Mary Sumner House, was also there to join in with the celebrations.  My Ordination stole was handmade (from recycled fabric) by a Mothers’ Union member from my branch in Shoreham too.

My family and I have now moved from Shoreham-by-Sea, to East Preston, near Littlehampton, where I will be Assistant Curate for the next three years.  We have been warmly welcomed by the congregation, and I am looking forward to continuing to walk in step with God in a new part of the Diocese.
