Mothers' Union Diocese of Aberdeen & Orkney

There are two branches:

• St Andrews Cathedral, Aberdeen
• St Mary on the Rock, Ellon and St James the Less, Cruden Bay

Our membership of about 100 includes diocesan members from all areas of the diocese and we work with other church groups and organisations to make a difference.

Members are involved in the following activities:

• A monthly prayer group meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 2:30pm in St Mary’s, Carden Place, Aberdeen
• We also have a prayer circle with 17 members offering daily prayers for anyone in need
• One branch liaises with their local Resource Centre inviting the clients to a service at Easter and Christmas followed by afternoon tea. The members are also invited to join in with the activities at the centre
• Knitting baby clothes and blankets for premature babies in the neonatal unit in Aberdeen
• Providing toilet bags for emergency hospital admission to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and to Grampian Women's Aid
• Donating welcome trays to Grampian Women’s Aid along with knitted teddies, colouring books and pencils for the children, as requested by the staff at Grampian Women’s Aid
• Donations of toiletries and toilet bags at Christmas for the women in HM Prison and Young Offenders Institution Grampian, as requested by the Rev Ali Harvey, Prison Chaplain.
• We organise AFIA holidays each year and the feedback from these has been very positive
• Although small in number, we are very committed to the aims and objectives of Mothers’ Union and keep abreast of all that is happening.

We are linked through correspondence and prayer with the Dioceses of:

• Angola (Southern Africa)
• North Ankole (Uganda)
• Okene & Ibadan South (Nigeria)
• Karnataka South (South India)
