Thailand

Located in South East Asia, Thailand is the world's 50th-largest country. Famous for its tropical beaches, rich royal palaces, and ancient ruins Thailand has a thriving tourism industry. 

However drug abuse, alcoholism and gambling are big problems for families living in the region and health issues such as malaria, tuberculosis, dengue fever and HIV are also now serious threats. 

With the vast majority of the country being Buddhist, just 1% of the population of Thailand are Christian.

There are just over 500 Mothers’ Union members, mostly located in the north of Thailand. Here they are very active, running a number of outreach programmes serving the whole community:

  • Nursery schools 
  • Income generating projects
  • Marriage preparation
  • Sunday school
  • Leadership training
  • Hospital visitation
  • Bible study

Marthe presented on her experiences with war widows in her country’s rural communities
