Located in South East Asia, Thailand is the world's 50th-largest country. Famous for its tropical beaches, rich royal palaces, and ancient ruins Thailand has a thriving tourism industry.
However drug abuse, alcoholism and gambling are big problems for families living in the region and health issues such as malaria, tuberculosis, dengue fever and HIV are also now serious threats.
With the vast majority of the country being Buddhist, just 1% of the population of Thailand are Christian.
There are just over 500 Mothers’ Union members, mostly located in the north of Thailand. Here they are very active, running a number of outreach programmes serving the whole community:
MULOA stands for “Mothers’ Union Listening, Observing, Acting” and is the name we are using to explore the essence of what it is to be Mothers’ Union
During the 16 Days of Activism hundreds of members of the Mothers’ Union in Grahamstown came together in solidarity to bring attention and awareness the fact that gender based violence will not be tolerated.
Mothers’ Union is often asked to comment on important issues, influencing the way policy is shaped and decided.
