16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence: Global

Mothers’ Union campaigns around the world, through our 4 million members in 83 countries, for an end to gender-based violence

Mothers’ Union supports the 16 Days of Activism campaign which runs from 25th November to 10th December. Throughout this campaign, Mothers’ Union joins with over 6000 organisations from over 185 countries to raise awareness of and call for an end to gender based violence and abuse in all forms and in all societies. Gender based violence is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. It can affect anyone at any time and it takes many forms. It can be part of a damaging cultural norm or hidden behind closed doors; it can be very difficult to ask for help.

In the UK, Mothers' Union members offer practical support which inclides providing essential items for refuges, training and support workshops on gender-based issues in schools and prisons as well as supporting the families of survivors to heal and rebuild important family bonds thorugh its 'Away From It All' holidays'. Mothers' Union work in parnership with local domesic abuse organisations and parishes to raise awareness about the prevalence of all forms of abuse in our communities and give practical examples of how we can all be part of the change. We have practical actions that everyone can take to help.
