Peru
Located in South America, Peru is vast country bordered by Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador. Peru is incredibly biodiverse.
Along the Pacific coast the country is covered in arid plains, in the east along the amazon river the landscape is mostly rainforest and then stretching from north to the southeast of the country are the Andes mountains. In recent years progress has been made in reducing poverty levels in the country but it still remains high, ranging from 30% up to 55% in rural areas.
The Asociacion de Mejeres Anglicanas (Association of Anglican Women, or AMA) in Peru has been affiliated to the worldwide Mothers' Union since 2003.
AMA‘s goals are similar to Mothers' Union’s and include the empowerment of women, building and strengthening relationships and addressing key issues such as poverty. Their project work focusses on supporting family life, and includes:
- Vocational skills training
- Supporting children’s homes
- Visiting the sick
- Agricultural projects
- Spiritual retreats
