Mothers' Union Diocese of Portsmouth

Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Portsmouth seeks to support our local families by developing prayer and spiritual growth, studying and reflecting on family life and marriage and their place in society and resourcing our members to take practical action to improve conditions for families.

We have just over 650 members at the moment with 25 branches in four deaneries. We are involved in a number of projects; some local, such as running parenting courses, marriage preparation and supplying holidays for disadvantaged families. All members of Mothers' Union share equal status, but there are different ways of belonging – there are a few different types of membership such as branch, diocesan, IMPC (indoor member prayer circle), central and incorporated.

Our work:

• We run pudding events where we invite non-members to an evening where our members bring desserts, this is part of our action and outreach
• We are involved in knitting twiddle muffs for people suffering with dementia
• We support many AFIA holidays for those in need
• We ran an AFIA event at Christmas where we took children to see Santa at Havenstreet Steam Railway.
