Trinidad and Tobago

Famous for its Carnival celebrations and as the birthplace of steelpan drums, Trinidad and Tobago is a twin-island nation located in the Caribbean, close to the coast of South American nation Venezuela. Trinidad and Tobago is considered a high-income economy, largely attributable to its large reserves of oil and natural gas. However despite its relative affluence in the region, there are still many social issues facing families living on the two islands.

As Mothers’ Union in Trinidad and Tobago looks forward to celebrating its centenary in 2021, members continue to reach out within their local communities to address the needs of individuals, families and community groups. The 625 members of Mothers’ Union are involved in the following activities:

  • Parenting Programme
  • Mothers’ Union Children’s Home
  • Hospital visitation
  • Homework programmes
  • Prison ministry
  • HIV/AIDs awareness
  • Baptism preparation
  • Bereavement counselling
  • Support for teenage mothers
  • Campaigning against gender based violence
  • Job fairs/support for the unemployed
  • Feeding programmes
